Route 1 has flooded, bringing with it a wave of water pokemon, Pokemon collectors would be fools to miss this rare chance to gain the rare water pokemon that have been seen. This has pushed the wild pokemon in route 2 into shelter, causing the rare pokemon "eevee" to come through in mass to gather food while they are in shelters.

JP and US names. « Thread Started on Apr 14, 2008, 3:21pm »
I just want you to know I never disliked anyone for using the Pokemon's US names. I've said I don't like the US names and that it's confusing that the names are changed and that I think the original ones are better.
Anyway, people say it's confusing when some people use the JP names (not here though), but it seems it's all right to use the US names, even if those are not the originals. So you may ask, what names are right to use. Of course, you can use both JP and US, I don't mind. Use the ones you like and know best. But still people complain on me because I use the JP names and some say how stupid the JP names are. They can say what they want about the names, it's their opinion. But then I tell them that I don't like the US names and why and people are suddenly angry at me.
For instance, they say Blacky is a stupid name, because it is, like many other JP names, too simple. It's too close to an actual word. But they never say anything about the US name Seel, which is also an English word, or Golem that is the most over used name I ever seen in Pokemon. Now, if you misspell Blacky there would be no difference, right? It would be no different from Seel. When I think about this it seems that some people dislikes the JP names for no reason, because what is the reason if the US names have the same flaws?
When people say the JP names are too difficult, then I can understand, because if you don't speak or know Japanese, then the names must be hard to pronounce and remember. When names like Sounansu and Fushigidane were translated it must have also prevented some confusion, even if it's sad that some puns were lost.
When names like Delvil and Hellgar were translated it was because the names were kind of against the Christian religion and they were translated in US where many people are Christian. I think it's stupid but Christians may have another opinion. I still don't like it when a religion affects a game or anime this way.
Now, I wonder, should people be able to use the names they want? I think so. I'm just sad that people are hating me because I said bad things about the US names (when they said they didn't like the JP names). I hope the members here do not think the same about me. I mean, I never hated anyone even if they didn't like the Pokemon's original names. And I sometimes think they don't respect those who created Pocket Monsters and just turn their backs to Japan and think US did a better work with PM than Satoshi Tajiri did. I hope you don't deny that the translators not only translated names, but also censored a lot as well. I don't hate people who use the US names. But I dislikes the translators and those who censored the Japanese culture in the anime.

I like the american names my self because thats how I learned it. I have nothing against the japanese names (no matter how hard it is to match some names -.-'), I just like alot of the names, and about the golem thing, I'm suprised it wasn't taken out like the christian names (they have all the rights to ask for there culture to be taken out if they want) because if any of you are multi-cultural, you would know that it is a jewish folke tail. and the japanese culture can be offensive to sertain people. The swastica, even though it has been a peace sign world wide for centurys, and even a letter in a native american langauge, had to be censored out of a card that had one in it.

No, I'm not from Japan but I like the Japanese language and many things from Japan. And since I used the Internet I've learned the JP names first, before they are translated. That's why I don't remember all the 4th gen US names (since I have the Japanese game, too).
And you're right about Golem. It is after all from a religion, but it's not Christian. Maybe the Jews don't care so much about that and that the thing with the swastika was just a misunderstanding. And after all the translators were not jewish (or at least I don't think so, they were Christian weren't they?), and the card was censored because of complaints from Jewish people. There has been complaints on a lot of Pokemon after they have been released, like their names and looks, but they still remain mostly unchanged. Even the Japanese people have been offended, like Barrierd/MR. Mime having four fingers, now the Pokemon has five. Four is a number of bad luck and if someone has four fingers it's most likely that one has been cut off. I've heard some children could get scared because of that.
Sometimes I think religious people are over reacting a little. Like about that movie, Metropolis, there was a woman called Hel (it means bright), but since it was similar to hell, they censored every scene with her and that kind of made the story harder to understand. They didn't even bother to change her name or anything like that. They cut 2 hours from that 3h movie. I'm not religious myself so I have it difficult to understand how they feel and think about these things, but they do ruin things for other people sometimes.

I'm not relidgus my self but I do suport their right to ask for some thign taken out. This ameses me though when this happens too childrens shows, but shows like southpark get to go out with probably the most sacrelidgus statements that some times even piss me off. Mr. Mimes four fingers was probably refering too how most cartoons in america have four fingers, and just trying too make them cute looking. The thing is people are paranoid, relidgus, supersticius, or just plain bitter, what ever it is, people are gona find some way too make it bad.
On the note of the church hating pokemon, the pope him self is starting too say, thats enough, it's just a game, so it's more or less just a few people being bitter. I could go on about this more, but it might be offensive too some people, so I won't.

I kinda agree, It's stupid for them to take out the japanese names. I actually like Satoshi, Haruka, Kasumi, Hikari and Takashi much better than "Ash, May, Misty, Dawn and Brock" It's more fun to pronounce.
Now, Some pokemon I'd have to look up what the japanese name was and try to pronouce it really long. I'm studying Japanese because I like it. It's fun to speak and people go "What the heck did you say?!" Or "That's not a real sentence!" because they're too lazy to look it up online.
I also will note, how the Americans deleted a few pokemon episodes for a really stupid reason. Like... That episode where jame's had support for his Bikini, I mean, Sure it was freaky, but like, If they didn't want kids to see it than air it late at night.
Or that episode with the jynx. They thought it was to racist D:
Or the one with the earthquake, they had really no reason to block that one out because there was no earthquake when that was meant to be aired. Now I know there was an earthquake in Japan when that episode was meant to be aired there, but they changed plans and changed the day it would be aired, but they never got around to it.
I'm also angry on how they moved pokemon to CABLE. There are SOME OF US POKEMON FANS WHO DO NOT HAVE CABLE. -twitches-

Well thats why I don't watch the show, or go watch subs like my bro used too do with naruto (I don't know why any more, that show isn't even that good when I look back on it and the fact that 90% of Starcraft players are Narutards, ugh). Some show just get killed or, lost in translation to say.

I prefer the American names. Then I actually know what I'm saying! You never know these days after all. For all I know Haruka could mean something like 'CENSORED'. It also makes it easier to remember the names of the Pokémon. Just take the name 'Bulbasaur' instead of 'Fushigidane', it's easier to remember 'cause Bulbasaur has a 'Bump' on it's back. Now if you say Fushigidane.. I think only of one thing; 'Dictionary'. I think I made my point with that one.. However, I do agree with you on one thing. I don't approve of the fact that so many episodes were banned. It's a downright nuisance! You do not only lose the storyline, but it also withholds people from learning about other cultures. For example, I heard that an episode was banned with the reason for being 'too Japanese'.. :| Because it portrayed a holiday celebrated by the Japanese people. I swear people, there IS something wrong with this world.. >>
